Wow it’s been nine months since I updated last! So crazy. I used to write in a journal every day. Now I’m sitting here at 9:17 PM, keeping my eye on the baby monitor, and the kitchen isn’t completely cleaned yet. Anyway, life is good. Maximus is so awesome. A large, smart, talking two-year-old toddler. “Did you pee-pee? Let’s check the diaper- ” He turns and runs away as fast as he can. LOL “Here, have some oatmeal!” “No specks!” “But they’re just blueberry pieces. You like blueberry.” “No no no specks!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I guess I’m in that “golden blink” period I keep hearing about. It’s annoying when I’m in it, but it’s the beautiful moments of raising a child that I’ll miss when he’s all grown up. I also miss hanging out with my husband and doing things, but I just saw a touching Instagram video that said, “You guys will have your time again. Now it’s the baby’s time. You will be wistful when the time is over and look back and see it’s so beautiful.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, Max trying to kick me in the face when I change his diaper is kind of cute if I’m in a good mood. I actually have to run now when he’s chasing me with a squirt gun because he’s picking up speed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve been trying to keep in shape, and then I decided to do a jiujitsu tournament in February 2026, to prove to myself that I can do enough on my own to still fight. On my own, meaning physical training workouts in the park while Max played, and sometimes invite a jiujitsu friend over to my matted shed. I’m also going over Beth and Damien Nitkin’s gym Atlas Grappling occasionally. Beth was a brown belt and just got promoted a few months ago to black. She’s my new friend and great training partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I did it!! I got Gold in no-gi expert, gold in gi (I did an exhibition match with a brown belt because there were no other blacks), and bronze in the absolute division. I knew I was going to lose my match when this huge Brazilian bruiser who outweighed me by like 25 lbs body slammed me and then body locked me from inside my guard. I was like “haha oh well.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that was awesome. I felt REALLY accomplished, and competing in martial arts made me feel like myself again, which I haven’t really felt like after having a baby. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s September now. I just did UFC BJJ Opens, the first event of this new promotion. My second tournament after Max. I wish I could have done Master Worlds instead but it’s on a Thursday for black belts and Chris couldn’t watch Max. It’s okay, I had fun at UFC BJJ Opens for the most part. I’m grateful I could do anything! Chris hasn’t been able to get anymore fights lately since he’s working insane overtime to support our family. Both of my opponents no-showed (one girl canceled in advance but the staff forgot to take her out of my bracket!). I did an exhibition match with a younger girl on Saturday and then they found a black belt for me on Sunday. I won both and felt really accomplished having gotten my first black belt tapout. I really hope I can do the actual UFC BJJ event someday before I get too old! I’m turning 44 this month omg u_u; Am I allowed to do emoji faces anymore since I’m almost 44? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
