I love my rebels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I woke up early, chatted with regulars in my chatroom, chatted with Mom, and then went to the gym.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, I don&#8217;t really trust Japanese trainers as much as I would a foreigner ^_^;;;. BUT I talked to the trainer at Gold&#8217;s Gym Omori about how to lose fat and keep muscle.\u00a0 He said that from my description, my diet is fine, and I&#8217;m doing well by decreasing food quantity when being less active, but keep eating a lot of protein as I usually do, and it&#8217;s good to have carbs when I&#8217;m training.\u00a0 If I&#8217;m too tired, it&#8217;s because I&#8217;m not getting enough carbs.<\/p>\n<p>And I should lift weights, which is what I&#8217;m planning to do, few but heavy reps.\u00a0 So I did that today and I was only there for 40-50 minutes total (including changing and talking to the guy).<\/p>\n<p>I had lunch- a rice ball, boiled chicken and veggies, and then chatted with one of my Japanese pals for a few hours before heading to work.<\/p>\n<p>Work was from 2 PM to 7PM, but it felt like all day.\u00a0 One woman decided that she didn&#8217;t want to do the book because it was her last two lessons, and asked me to teach her something.\u00a0 Um&#8230;.like what? ^^;;;\u00a0 We at Berlitz are masters at customizing lessons.\u00a0 If we have years under our belts, we have the scripts and chapters memorized&#8230;.so I figured out some things to teach her based on her needs, but I had to really think hard.\u00a0 She said she was happy.\u00a0 Oh challenges at work are what keeps things interesting!\u00a0 Then I had my little rebels (a group of six 8-year-olds).<\/p>\n<p>I was SUPPOSED to teach them library vocab and sentences.\u00a0 Among other things, some NOT useful, the teacher&#8217;s manual said, &#8220;Teach them Librarian, library, library card shelves, borrow\/lend, return, late fee, story time,\u00a0 shhh, be quiet, read a book, What&#8217;s she&#8217; doing?\u00a0 She&#8217;s returning the book late and has to pay a late fee of a $1.05&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK.\u00a0 They can barely say, &#8220;My name is A, what&#8217;s your name?&#8221;\u00a0 I have to teach &#8220;late fee of 1.05?!!!&#8221; Forget it!!!! \u00a0\u00a0 They are EIGHT.\u00a0 They just want to throw the flash cards around and scream. They wouldn&#8217;t stop turning on and off the TV in the room! \u00a0 LOL SO.\u00a0 Being the master of adapting lessons, I brought my bird pen into the classroom.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_31\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/roxannemodafferi.net\/RBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/roxy-with-pen-and-pepsi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31\" title=\"100704_0810~01\" src=\"http:\/\/roxannemodafferi.net\/RBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/roxy-with-pen-and-pepsi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-31\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roxy with bird pen and Pepsi<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The kids were like &#8220;OH COOL!!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Roxy: Right?\u00a0 Cool, isn&#8217;t it?\u00a0 You wanna use it?\u00a0 You have to say, &#8220;Can I borrow that?&#8221;<br \/>\nkids: &#8230;.<br \/>\nRoxy: Can. I.Borrow. That?<br \/>\nkids: Can&#8230;br&#8230;that?<br \/>\nRoxy: Can. I. Borrow. That?<br \/>\nkids: Can I br that?<br \/>\nRoxy: Can I borrow that?<br \/>\nkids: Can I borrow that?&#8221;<br \/>\nRoxy: Yes. Here.<br \/>\nkid A:\u00a0 COOL! *Grab*<br \/>\nRoxy: Okay today is January 18th, so write 1\/18 in your notebook.<br \/>\nkids: Ooooh! *write*<br \/>\nKid B:\u00a0 <em>tsugi Kashite<\/em>!\u00a0 (lend me that next!)<br \/>\nRoxy:\u00a0 You have to say, &#8220;Can I borrow that?&#8221;<br \/>\nkid B: Can I borrow that?<br \/>\nRoxy: Pass it!<br \/>\nKid A: *passed it*<\/p>\n<p>Etc. I got them all to CLEARLY ask for the bird pen.\u00a0 Then I taught them all the vocab via flash cards and the books.\u00a0 When I taught them, &#8220;Shhh be quiet!&#8221; they all loved it because I laughed loudly and they were like &#8220;BE QUIET!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then I tried to ask them questions about the activity book, but as soon as I opened my mouth, they screamed, &#8220;TEACHER, BE QUIET!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>oops, can we say &#8216;backfire?&#8217;\u00a0 lol\u00a0 Hey, classroom application.\u00a0 v^_^v Then I had them choose from three kids picture books and identify something in it. For example, &#8220;This is a cat. The end.&#8221;\u00a0 They LOVED it so much that they begged me to go around the table again.\u00a0 IN ENGLISH, BABY!\u00a0 They said, &#8220;Teacher, one more time!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Actually, I had brought in a neck tie intending to be the librarian, but didn&#8217;t put it on.\u00a0 A kid spotted it and said, &#8220;Neck tie please!&#8221; which is what they&#8217;ve learned to say when they want something.\u00a0 I said, &#8220;No&#8230;&#8221; and he IMMEDIATELY said, &#8220;Can I borrow neck tie?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>F(*W@#U$R#CK YES!\u00a0 He substituted the noun naturally!!!!!!!\u00a0 and then the girl across from him said, &#8220;Can I borrow pen please?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I almost peed in my pants I was so excited.\u00a0 You see, this is coming from my little rebels who blabber on in Japanese when my class is ENGLISH ONLY, and disobey and don&#8217;t seem to care and only repeat English when I FORCE them.\u00a0 But I didn&#8217;t force them!\u00a0 GO NATIVE ENGLISH ACQUISITION!!!
