I commuted an hour and 15 mins one way to the Keishukai gym, five days a week. It was exhausting and I always got home at midnight.

Then I started going to the AACC once in a while, which was an hour and 30 minutes from home! But I literally was running for the last train and getting home at 1 AM. It was not working.

Various things happened, and I found myself unable to make a single change. I had to change three things at the same time:
1) go freelance
2) move my home closer to training
3) transfer to a different office closer to training

Two years ago, I decided to take a chance, picked up and MOVED, and went freelance. However, the transfer didn’t go how I’d planned. I moved to a school a little closer, but still got stuck with a 40 minute commute to and from work.

For example, after I train with Kunioku-san on Tuesday, I had to wolf down lunch, and ride the train for over an hour to work straight from the gym. The good thing was that on Saturday nights, if I got out of training at 10:30 at the AACC, it only took me 20 minutes to get home, so I could get to bed by 11 rather than 1 AM.

I fell in love with my new office. I love my co-workers, and the atmosphere is the envy of every traveling teacher. Aside from the crazy kids afternoons on Tuesdays and Fridays. lol

Then an opening appeared in the school I’ve had my eye on for the past two years. My transfer request is going through! (It’s unusual and hard to get one) I’m so excited!! My home is really close to the office, and also the various places I train. I’ll have more rest time, and I could also teach more lessons instead of using that to commute. I love the atmosphere there. I’m excited to join a new family of colleagues.

I’ll miss my current co-workers a lot, and students.
The transfer date is July 18th. (19th)

Despite what I was thinking before my fight, I’m not convinced that moving back to the USA is the answer. So I have to change things little by little and bring my life into balance. I’m sure that falling asleep from exhaustion whenever I sit down is NOT normal, even for a pro-fighter.

I’m not giving up. I’m going to make this work. I’m going to win my next fight and prove that I’m still a contender.

When I first moved to Japan, I lived and worked in the suburbs.
