The Happy Warrior

my feelings about UFC 168

Posted in fight on December 29th, 2013 by roxyfighter

America was founded on freedom. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I believe people can say whatever they want. “Doing” whatever they want, of course, should be within social guidelines.

Regarding MMA, I am conflicted, because of the obvious conflict – “This is the hurt business” vs “This is a sport.”

I appreciate how trash-talk hypes fights, and what it adds promoting it, and making people excited. I appreciate how there are “good guys” and “bad guys,” whether they intend it or not. I think it’s BEST that fighters show their personalities, and that it distinguishes them from their peers.

Then there’s sportsmanship. I’m not trying to rip off your arm and beat you to a bloody pulp. I want to hit you so you fall down, so my hand is raised, so I make a ton of money and get famous. I train hard in the gym, sacrificing things, for my time in the spotlight. So did the other guy.

But should one fighter respect the other one, right?

I don’t care if Nick Diaz flips off cameras. But somehow it’s different for me for the females. Maybe because we have only a few women who are in the spotlight right now, to look up to.

I care VERY MUCH that my little 7 year old girl student is posting on Facebook pictures of herself in a T shirt that says “Stay calm and break arms,” scowling, with a mean face, trying to be like Ronda. Don’t be angry, you’re 7. I choose to be “the Happy Warrior” as an adult choice. Tons of young female fighters – from 4 yrs old and up, are looking to her as a role-model.

But Ronda should do what’s in her heart. She feels that Miesha is being fake. Who are we to expect her to go against her heart and shake Miesha’s hand in what society deems as ‘sportsman-like?’ And how about flipping her off on camera in TUF all the time?

I won’t say what she should or should not do. You, the fans, all are entitled to YOUR own opinions about that. I was upset by it because I’m a kids teacher. I have my own perspective on things, and my feelings come from my perspectives. I’m trying not to judge anyone. Their feelings come from their perspectives, too. I read somewhere that Ronda made another comment that she’s not going to talk as if there’s a 5-year-old in the room all the time.

That’s fair, too.

Ronda she said in her post fight interview about how she can’t shake the hand of Miesha who disrespected her family. I mean, if that’s the way she feels, that’s how she feels, and everyone is entitled to their feelings.

Does everybody know what she was talking about? They saw her shun her opponent. It’s about the pranks Miesha and team played on her on The Ultimate Fighter, right? I guess? Ronda she said she respected Miesha as an athlete. That’s great.

All that being said, it was a superb fight. Miesha showed how much she improved, and Ronda showcased her BEAUTIFUL Judo techniques. Ronda did an outstanding job of dominating the fight, and Miesha was wily in getting out of most of it. I applaud both women, and congratulate them both.

It’s great seeing how people are no longer like, “Oh this fight has to prove that women deserve to be in the Octagon.” No, people are like, “Man, who do you got? Who’s gonna win? Ronda’s Judo blah blah” and discuss each fighter’s attributes. I love it.

I was so upset Josh Barnett lost like that. He someone I’ve watched fight for a long time, and I know him personally. 🙁

I don’t wanna even think about Silva vs Weidman. I wish Silva a speedy recovery. I wish I could un-see that break.

I was really moved at how Miesha found it within herself to even OFFER to shake Ronda’s hand, because I know how much the fight mean to her.

We saw a super suspicious character!

I’ve been exhausted all week, but still pushing it hard!! Too hard….On Wednesday we had a Syndicate instructor/staff dinner, and I enjoyed it very much! Brazilian BBQ place. omg….HEAVEN.

And I woke up the next morning sick. ~_~ Sore throat.
I stayed home from training, but still managed to finish last minute Christmas preparation, although just barely. Collapsed several times between chores. ;_;

I WASHED MY CAR in the automatic car washing machine thingie! 😀 Dude, you don’t understand…. as a kid I used to LOVE going through those things! They spray the car and the cloth things slap against the car and it’s so exciting. lol But there weren’t any in Amherst, as far as I knew, where I used to drive. Anyway, I went through one! And it was Terrible! See?

Here I GO!!

Small pleasures, guys, small pleasures! Relish them and you will be happier in life. XD I can’t wait for my car to get dirty again.

So I flew to BOSTON on Friday. 😀 Suffering from a stuffy nose and really bad headache. ~_~;; I tried not to let it show. I spent the weekend with my Dad and step-mother. Chris, my step-brother, wasn’t home. 🙁 We chilled out, watched football, ate Dim Sum, and I tried not to get everyone sick. Washing my hands incessantly, blowing my nose in the other room. There’s a ridiculous lack of vegetables in this house… o_O;;;

I made myself chill out when I’d normally be trying to exercise, and therefore watched like 10 one-hour episodes of Flash Forward TV show….and I wrote my new book.

Man, I wanted to train today! (Monday) ;_; I brought all my gear, too. Booo.

MY BOOK CAME OUT!! 😀 “Memoirs of a Happy Warrior.” It’s an autobiography of the year I spent in Japan for school. I had my MMA debut there, and had all sorts of adventures. Please support me and buy it! I know you’ll like it! XD
Here’s the linkie!

I can only watch so much football. MAN, I never realized how brutal it is! I’m seeing guys throwing themselves on top of each other, legs twisting, crashing into each other full-force. I haven’t watched it since I was a kid, and man…. I keep thinking about how many guys’s knees get messed up. After watching it for over 4 hours yesterday, I think I’m done with it for a year.

Today I chilled at home, chatted with friends on my phone and watched Flash Forward until I got overloaded, and then went out with my wonderful step-brothers! 😀 Steak tip salad at this Italian restaurant place, and then ice cream afterwards. I wish we could hang out more. XD

I’m so lucky

I’m used to buying my own gloves and shin guards and gear. I always bought my supplements, vitamins, protein powder. And I was jealous when I hear about fighters getting sponsorships, especially new fighters who only had a few pro fights. Man, I had over 15 and I still had to buy my own stuff.

I’ve had two loyal clothing sponsors, Fightchix and Tussle, have been with me for years, even when I fought on little tiny shows that could barely get them publicity.

Fightchix made the warmest fleece shirt I own.

I like to say, “If there’s a nuclear disaster, it’d be the first thing I’d grab.” And it’s funny cuz it’s true – I was in Japan when the nuclear power plant blew, and it WAS the shirt I grabbed when I evacuated Tokyo. lol

And Tussle makes the coolest designs of T shirts I’ve seen in a fight company. I love them.

And my Webmaster has been making my site and helping me ever since college.

But recently, I’ve gotten a few more sponsors. I want them all to know how grateful I am. Thank you, from all my heart, to my sponsors, because they help me follow my dream!
If fans support these companies, they support me, because I become worthwhile as a sponsoree.

Recently, I got Revgear gloves, shinguards, T-shirts, hoodies , and a gi.

R is for Revgear
“R” is for “Roxy with Revgear”

I also got supplements and nutrition advice from the company “Dominate your Game.”

success at training, TV, FOX 5 interview

Posted in every day, fight, training, work on December 15th, 2013 by roxyfighter

I had a busy week. My body hates me, so I’ve been struggling, but I learned a lot of stuff and have been successful in applying it in training! So exciting! I’m so happy!

I taught more kids classes than usual this week, to cover for another instructor who’s away. I’m starting to remember kids’ names better.

I wanted to take a break from watching Naruto, so I rented and finished watching Man of Steel. Then I got the TV series “Flash Forward,” based off of Robert Sawyer’s book with the same name. I ADORE ROBERT SAWYER’S STUFF. Literally every book I pick up, I’ve liked. I wish I had more time to read, though. I STILL haven’t finished the final book of the Wheel of Time. -_-

On Friday, I felt too crappy to do MMA class, so I lifted weights, and then wrote my new book. WHERE IS MY PUBLISHED BOOK!? It should be out by now. >< But I'm writing a new one: "How To Be Positive" - Mental training by the Happy Warrior. I've got 12 Word Processor pages so far. I'm driven to be productive at all times. Yesterday, I did sparring, and man, I noticed a difference and improvement sparring with people I haven't sparred before. 😀 SO EXCITED. Other than the lump on my forehead still being sore from my fight. Hahaha. Man, I hope the UFC gives me another chance to fight for them! I need the fans to please show support for me to Dana White and Sean Shelby. ;_; roxy watching ufc with bryan and miesha
After sparring, I went to the FOX 5 news TV office and watched the UFC. Then I hung out with Bryan and Miesha and we did little interviews during the post-UFC show. 😀 It was an honor to be on there!
