I went to TUF 20 tryouts!

Posted in every day, fight, friends on April 29th, 2014 by roxyfighter

No, I’m not trying out again, I was already on the show! No, I’m not dropping from 135 lbs to 115 lbs. Are you crazy? No, I’m not fighting in the UFC now, I signed with Invicta months ago. No, I can’t talk about the results of the tryouts…that’s the first Rule of The Ultimate Fighter: don’t talk about The Ultimate Fighter. lol

I’m amazed at how many people asked me these questions on Twitter and Facebook. ^^;

So now that we’ve gotten all that out of the way! 😀

I went to support my friends Heather Clark and Helen Harper, and meet people and be a part of the experience. 😀 I know all the staff, so it was really cool to say hi to the camera and sound guys, and coordinators and interviewers and people. 🙂

They made me sign a waiver and interviewed me with Heather! 😀 We hugged and were all like best-friend-mushy stuff that they probably won’t air because it’s so cheesy. LOL but I said some good stuff so yeah haha.

And I sat with Helen and Miesha!

And Ricky Lundell, my coach from TUF 18. 😀 I love this guy.

I said hi to Dana White! I wanted a picture like everybody else, but I was too shy to ask. ^^; I’ve talked to him many times, but I’m still in awe of him. ._.

I met Marq for the first time in person, one of my friends and MMA reporter/website owner! 😀 The peacock feather in his hat is amazing. And he’s wearing a Team Kristin shirt! XD
marq and roxy

And …..I’m a huge fan of Tecia Torres! She’s younger than me and is 4-0, but she’s so talented and cool and her striking is like bambambamFasterThanTheEyeTornadoooooooo. #Invicta I can wait to see her fight again. XD I was like ….a fangirl. hahaha I like being a fangirl sometimes. And her arms and shoulders are bigger than mine. :[ *jealous*

I met Bec (Hayatt) Rawlings !

I recognized soooooo many people, but couldn’t place their faces or names to where I’ve met them before (or just seen them fight.) So PLEASE, if you come up to me, don’t say, “Hey, do you remember me?” Because it’s sooo embarrassing for me to give you a blank stare and try to explain yes, and no. :(Then you are hurt. So just give me a break and be like ‘Hey, I’m blahblahblah, we met at the blah blah blah.” Thanks! :{

It was really fun and interesting to watch people do grappling and mitts. Very. And …. I can’t talk about it. XD (see “rules of The Ultimate Fighter” stated above)

mwahahahaha
Oh, my coach John Wood was there, and Julie Kedzie came to visit! 😀 Michael Chiesa was there, too.

weekly summary (owie, yoga, insurance, tons of random stuff, pics )

I kinda hurt myself. Luckily, it’s minor. But it will take minimum two weeks to heal enough to practice. Aw man, I was training SO hard and improving in leaps and bounds! Well, I always train as hard as I can, camp or no camp. It’s kind of ironic because last time I DID have a camp, I started getting sick and tired of going to the gym. I still have no fight set, and ideally, this would be a nice time to take a break. I kind of needed a break.

Except, I don’t work like that. I can’t take ‘breaks.’ The first two days, I was in so much pain, I could lay around guilt-free. But then comes the guilt (I should be training), trying to find other stuff to do (stairs, cardio, etc), anger (at my body for keeping me from doing team training), ADD (from not being productive enough), cranky (not training).

Thank goodness it’s nothing long term. It’s minor.

And I’ve had to cancel my new private MMA lesson student. 🙁

So for the past seven days, I’ve been waking up, going to Syndicate, telling my teammates no, I’m not okay, no, I can’t train, no, I don’t have a fight, etc. Doing 30 minutes on the exercise elliptical machine at Syndicate, jump rope a few rounds, and then go to yoga. Sometimes, run stairs at the Orleans. And then for the rest of the day, I’ve been doing various things.

I don’t really even LIKE yoga, but my body feels so awesome afterwards. My lower back hasn’t felt this good in years! 😀 And how about PAYAPA-Yoga!

There’s only so much you can force yourself to do before you snap. For me, that was Wednesday. NOOOOOOOOOO moooooooooar Yooooooooooooga!!! x_x; Instead of that, I tried to find a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) Machine, but both The Orleans and Circus Circus were closed. I’d gone too early. But I like to start training early, so it helps me digest my breakfast. If I eat lunch without having exercised, I have indigestion for the rest of the day.

Did I mention I hate my body?

Hate is such a negative word. So yeah, so now I gotta think of a positive thing about being thwarted out of DDR two times. 1) While at Circus Circus, I bought a travel tumbler at a gift shop that’s pretty and says “Las Vegas” on it, that I can use to get tea on the way home from training. I’ve been looking for one. 2) And I got a Las Vegas mug for 99 cents. 😀 I’ve been bored of my current mugs. 3) I DDR-ed later that afternoon. 4) At least I got exercise walking around. 5) I got new shorts at Walmart for CHEAP because they marked the price wrong, but it was actually FREE cuz my friend gave me a Walmarts gift Card. YAY WALMART! I could live there.

See, I thought of FIVE things. hiyaaaa! *random air karate chop*

Other things:
I got a gift box from Grace and Yusuke, my friends from Japan 😀
gift from grace and yusuke 2

My sponsor, Dominate Your Game , gave me Glucosamine! 😀 So I tried to make my body look like their circular symbol thingie. lol
dominate your game glutamine

I’ve started teaching Japanese to a client! 😀 So I’m starting to make lesson plans.

Dealt with health insurance. I applied TWO FREAKING MONTHS AGO and haven’t heard diddly squat! So I called Nevada Health Link and asked WHERE THE F MY INSURANCE IS what the status of my application process is in.

I BATTLED VALIANTLY with the automated phone menu system for a good 20 minutes before finding the correct number. Then talked to a lady who said “the computer shows that a policy is created, but the status is pending.” I asked her wtf that meant if she could please explain. She offered to transfer me to another guy. So I asked for the phone number in case the connection didn’t go through. (I’m smart!!) and she gave it to me, connected me, and then the phone hung up on me.

HAHAHA Did I mention I’m smart? So I called it back, but just got an answering machine, and I left a message. x_x *punches a random jaywalker* A guy actually called me back the next day and said that I’ll know in two weeks. Oh. Okay.

I’ve been keeping up with TUF Brazil and TUF 19. I also watched the whole series (13 eps) of the Avenger anime (not related to Marvel). And Mission Impossible: ghost protocol.

And I met my best friend Heather’s Dad! 😀 I’ve been wanting to meet him for some time.

I wrote an article for my sponsor, Intimidation Clothing.

I lost my SPARTA!!! T shirt. ;_; I can’t find it anywhere! I need another one so I can randomly pose and yell SPARTAAAAAAAAAA!

I taught kids classes this week and almost cried trying to show an armbar because my @#O$UW#$* hurt to put pressure on it. 🙁

I watched Star Trek with mom :D. If I’m home at 6 PM we can watch it! XD
There are a lot of ones I haven’t seen cuz they haven’t been repeated much. Maybe not the popular ones. There are a few I don’t ever remember seeing! Once mom said, “I’m sure you HAVEN’T Seen this one. We probably didn’t let you watch it. (as a kid).” Haha go parental censorship! I approve.

And I found that I like the Klingons …. a lot more than I used to. 🙂

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND FINALLY…I’m maintaining or losing weight. I usually gain it when I stop training hard, but through a low-carb diet and eating lightly at night, I’ve been managing it. YAY. If I lose muscle mass, I’ll stab myself with a pencil. x_x;

Yesterday was great! Except that I couldn’t do MMA. 🙁 Stuff still hurts. So I did some cardio at 9 AM, and then went to meet Kristin and Veronica from “womensmmaroundup,” who do funny and informative videos on youtube.

Guys, I can’t say enough about how much I love their videos, and I can’t believe they don’t have like ten thousand followers by now. If you have five minutes, check out a few vids on youtube or follow them on twitter (@wmmaroundup). They have so many good vids, my personal favorites being but the one I just watched recently was this one:

and also “everything you need to know about TUF 20: (CLICK HERE to see vid

Okay, so that being said, we are friends and I drove them around! We went to the sock shop:
knee high socks with kristin
note: I usually prefer short socks to knee highs. Just wanted to show these off 🙂

They bought me lunch at the food court!

We then went to Amanda’s baby shower! 😀 Duckies!

It was so charming and nice! I’m so excited for Amanda and Jason. 😀
We are relaxing here, watching the UFC on the big screen TV of the suite room they got! 😀 Yay Miesha!

Then for the aftershow, the FOX news casters interviewed my new teammate and TUF 19 contestant The Hillbilly Heartthrob “Josh Clark.” super nice guy, please support him by following him on Twitter and being nice! 😀 I’m trying to get him into social media more. @joshclarkmma

After that, it was still early enough, so I drove Veronica and Kristin to Town Square, and we hung out a bit. We’re such big nerds! XD

This morning, I ran stairs at the Orleans and found I wasn’t out of shape. yay 😀
And then I did yoga and it wasn’t too painful. 😀
Then I colored EASTER EGGS! 😀 😀 😀 Because I haven’t celebrated Easter in 8 years, since I lived in Japan, so I wanted to do something. 🙂 It’s nice to be with my family (mom_

struggling this week, but I have good friends&fans. TUF house&food

Posted in every day, friends on April 18th, 2014 by roxyfighter

The week started out awesome!

Then I pulled a muscle and it’s excruciatingly painful. I thought it was just a tight muscle knot, but it hurts to move at all. Even pushing myself up from a position laying down. x_x I didn’t even try to train yesterday, and was super bummed that I missed sparring. I wanted to try out my new move I learned in mitts! ;_;

So, determined to have a good day, I did something I’ve been meaning to do for a few weeks: find the TUF house. Despite driving there every day for 6 weeks, I wasn’t familiar enough with Vegas to know the roads.

Then at Tuff-N-Uff, a couple who were fans came up to me and said, “Your house was right next to ours! We saw you taking jogs and we had to be quiet when the crew was filming!”

I was like, “…..WHERE DO YOU LIVE?!” haha SO I took a drive there, and omg it’s close to where I live now!

TUF house1

The feeling I got was so weird. It was like visiting an old friend, or an old hometown. TUF 18 feels like a lifetime ago, and it has been literally a year since I went to tryouts! I drove past the house like 4 times, and after leaving, I felt like I drove across the world. Man, I miss living there! It was such an intense experience. It totally changed my life.
TUF house 2

I tried looking for tanktops at the Outlett mall, but the cheap store went out of business. ~_~ I’m VERY specific about tank tops. They can’t be too clingy on the chest, can’t show my bra straps at all, can’t be too tight under my arms, can’t be low cut at all….. impossible, right? I can never find what I want. I found one in IZOD, and they were $25, but I bought one anyway, because I FINALLY found one.

Taught the kids class…just barely because I couldn’t really move. ._. So bummed out. Jake Steckel (my chiropractor) saw me TWICE, once in the morning, and once in the evening, and it helped me a bit. But it still sucks. My body sucks.

I’ve been having indigestion ALL WEEK, something horrible. I’m afraid to eat ANYTHING because I suffer so much. ALL FREAKING WEEK constantly. 🙁 I can’t figure out what’s wrong. I’ve been trying to do process of elimination for various foods and stuff. I’ve cut out soo much stuff. And the stuff I’m eating now, I’ve eaten with no problems in the past, so WTF IS WRONG WITH ME. I hate my body.

And don’t tell me to go to the doctor because I DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE despite applying for it like two months agoooooooooooooooooooo damnit!

I should be more positive. :/

Today I was productive and wrote an article for my sponsor http://www.intimidationclothing.com/. It’ll be published later, I guess. I wanted to try going to team practice, but even after warming up, my back had sharp stabbing pain. wtfffff Mike Pyle taught class, too. I WANT TO LEARNnnnnnnn. ug

So I ate my lunch, veggies, English muffin, and Mom’s meatloaf. And I didn’t get indigestion. 😀 Then my buddy Bootsy was free, so he took me to his fav fast food mexican place in a gas station, and it was actually good. I had already eaten my carefully prepared portions, so I just got something small. He bought me a baby taco! SO CUTE, right? 😀
baby taco

And he got this meat cheese mix on french fries?! LOL
french fries mix

I want to try it, but I can’t….and my weight isn’t going down as fast as I want….OKAY MUST BE POSITIVE!

Thanks to my buddy Patrick, who sent me a gift box with a few DVDs, a gift card, and SOCKS! 😀 😀
snoopy socks from patrick

I have good, good, thoughtful friends. And fans on Twitter and Facebook who wish me well when I make a gloomy post. You guys are a blessing and really cheer me up and remind me to be positive. 🙂 Love you guys!
😀 😀 😀

So a few months ago, this big guy came into our gym carrying the same UFC bag as me. Josh Clark, the “Hillbilly Heartthrob.” I had my suspicions….and then we find out he was on TUF! 😀 He got into the house! That’s all we can say 😀 So now I want to help promote him because he’s super friendly.

awesome sparring and weekend (Tuff-N-Uff, BBQ)

Posted in friends, training on April 13th, 2014 by roxyfighter

Thursday sparring was pretty hard. We did stand up with big gloves, striking to take-downs, and MMA stuff, getting up from different positions, etc.

You get tired pretty quick going up and down, rather than just sticking to either jiu-jitsu or kickboxing. Man, by the end, my legs were burning but didn’t fail on me. I made it through, which means I’m in good shape. 😀 I can tell. Various injuries are better, thanks to Yoga. I’m really happy and satisfied with myself.

I went home, lay down for like 15 minutes before having to cook and do laundry and stuff, then went back to Syndicate, taught two kids classes and a private lesson. 😀 yeah. busy day.

Friday I woke up and could barely stand up, despite all the Glutamine and SOCK OFF recovery stuff I drank. :/ So I didn’t go to practice – I went to Vegas Hot!’s Yin Yoga (stretch-based only) at noon, and watched a ton of the anime Bleach, and Disney’s Frozen. I heard Friday’s practice was great. Aw, man! 🙁 oh well…. all practices are great.

Then I went to Tuff-N-uff to watch my friends fight! 😀 Jen Chareunvong had an awesome debut fight, but unfortunately lost by split decision. They were both scrappy!

(Jen and I)
jcjenocide after fight

My friend Tyler from Canada got caught with a punch in the opening of the first round. 🙁 I’m so sad for him, because he didn’t really get to fight and test his skills. Well, as long as he keeps going, he’ll get that chance. It’ll just be post-poned.

And Jamie Moyle, my main female training partner, did really well and defeated her very game opponent by TKO. I was so excited and screamed so loudly. The other girl looked really sharp on her feet, as is Jamie, of course, but once Jamie got her on the cage and on the ground, she had the advantage. I was like, “YEAH! we worked that! YEAH! We worked that! YEAH! WE WORKED THAT!!!”

omg. x_x

Thanks a lot to Tuff-N-uff for putting on such a great event, and letting me have a table to sell my books and T-shirts. 😀

(you can buy my T-shirt online here! link to T-shirt)
(you can buy my book online here: link to book )

Friday really felt like Saturday, and Saturday really felt like Sunday. I don’t know what Sunday will be like. I did the jiu-jitsu class in the morning and skipped sparring. My body is still hurting from my long Thursday. But I sparred someone who I usually get manhandled by, and I did really well. SO I AM HAPPY. I am on an upward peek. Please tell me I’m fighting soon.

I then hung out with Bootsy and friends, and then hung out with John and team, ate delicious BBQ chicken and watched Glory and boxing. I got sleepy at 10 PM because that’s my bedtime, but I was really interested in the main event. It was exciting! Thanks for having me, coach! 😀

After it ended, I went out John’s front door and Mike Pyle (who was laying in wait) shouted”BOOO!” I screamed, “AHHHHHHHHHHHH!” and jumped a foot in the air.

-__-;;;

He hopped into his car chuckling, “I got ya real good! I got ya good! hahaha.”

Yes, you did. Thank you. What a kind, considerate man! Ensuring that I’m awake enough to drive home safely. Right? What great people I’m surrounded by! 😀 😀 😀
